My Educational Philosophy
I believe that students and teachers should be cooperative partners in education along with principals, parents, and administration, though sole responsibility for educating students lies with the teacher. As a teacher, teaching should come from a place of care, love and wanting to positively affect a life. My main goal as teacher is to educate and be sure my students are growing and developing appropriately, but I also want to help my students to develop their esteems and life skills. Curriculum and content are very important. Students need to be getting the basic skills and knowledge to be productive aware members of their community, while relating the content to the real world and through hands-on discovery. I don’t believe I can be there solely for the purpose of giving content or solely for the purpose of building their self-esteems. As the teacher I have to address both aspects of a student’s development and education during my time with them. Students need the knowledge and subject areas to be informed individuals, but if there is no work on socialization, self-esteem, or life skills then I cannot expect my students to be able to work in the really world. My goal is to build a community in the classroom to foster my students through my philosophy of education.
